After Succesfully organising 2 Editions in Goa with more the 500 short films making an entry to the festival and around 250 curated films screened, Filmmakers also took up the challenge of making films in 6o hours with 4 editions of 60 hours film making challenge
Growing Beyond Borders: What started as a homegrown festival in Goa is now spreading its wings nationally and internationally. In 2025, we in Association with Short Film Tour successfully organised an Edition in the City of Mountains, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, marking the beginning of our journey to different cities across India and soon, to global destinations. Our vision is to make WAVES a truly international celebration of short films and creative storytelling.

WAVES International Short Film Festival 2.0 (WISFF)
unfolded from January 17th to 19th, 2025, in the vibrant heart of Panaji, Goa, at the state-of-the-art Entertainment Society of Goa, reaffirming its status as a dynamic celebration of cinematic waves and creative brilliance. Organized by Shree Mudra and powered by the Department of Information and Publicity – Government of Goa, the event featured a compelling array of short films, thought-provoking discussions, and diverse activities that enthralled filmmakers, audiences, and industry enthusiasts alike

The WAVES 60 Hours Short Film Challenge, now in its fifth edition and integrated into the Waves International Short Film Festival, has expanded to a national level across India, providing a dynamic platform for both seasoned professionals and newcomers to create and showcase their talents. Filmmakers from nationwide compete intensely, with entries judged by industry experts and top selections screened at the main festival event, offering invaluable exposure to broader audiences. This highly anticipated contest, eagerly sought by established and emerging creators, has earned widespread acclaim by propelling participants from high-pressure creativity to global stages, as evidenced by past winners securing spots at Cannes, IFFI, and Filmfare Awards. The festival not only nurtures raw filmmaking potential but proudly celebrates films that continue to dominate prestigious national and international arenas

The WAVES 60 Hours Short Film Challenge launched its inaugural edition in 2020, igniting a tradition of rapid creativity and cinematic excellence. The second edition, organized in association with Ravindra Bhavan Margao under the chairmanship of Shri Damu G Naik, saw the acclaimed film "The First Wedding," directed by Shri Akshay Parvatkar, claim victory in the debut competition; it went on to win the prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Female) at the 2021 Filmfare Short Film Awards, while screening at over 15 international film festivals worldwide and continuing to garner recognition. Similarly,
"Wagro," directed by Shri Sainath S Uskaikar, dominated nearly every category in the second edition, earning selection at the renowned Cannes Film Festival 2022 in the short film category, inclusion in the Indian Panorama of the 53rd IFFI 2022 in Goa, and an ongoing legacy of acclaim across global festivals
The 3rd and the 4th edition of the 60 Hours Film Making Challenge was conducted as an integral component of the Waves International Short Film Festival 2023. The event garnered enthusiastic participation, featuring numerous filmmakers showcasing their talent in the art of filmmaking. The film ‘Ek Sur’ Short Film Directed by Glen Cardozo winner of multiple awards at the 3rd edition, made its way to many International Film Festivals across the globe, and The film "Maarvat," which received a Special Jury Mention at the 3rd Edition of the 60 Hours Film Festival, directed by Rajaram Gopal Turi was screened at the International Film Festival of India - Goa Section.
'Straight Ahead', Directed by Sobita Kudtarkar and crafted for the 4th edition of the WAVES 60 Hours Challenge, triumphed by securing numerous awards at WAVES before earning a prestigious nomination in the short film category at the Filmfare Awards.
This achievement underscores the festival's role in propelling emerging talents from intensive challenges to national and international recognition, highlighting the creative potential nurtured within its competitive formats
